Kindergarten FAQ:

• What is the criteria a child must meet to be eligible to attend a kindergarten program?
  • A child must be at least five years of age on September 1 of the school year. (TEC §29.15)
• Is kindergarten mandatory?
  • No. Children who are five years of age on or before September 1 are not required to enroll in kindergarten. However, on enrollment in kindergarten, a child shall attend school. Kindergarten students are subject to compulsory school attendance rules while they are enrolled in school.

Documentation: 

All items required for registration.

• Certified Copy/Official Birth Certificate
• Social Security Card
• Custody or guardianship documents relating to the student 
• Proof of residency (utility bill or lease agreement showing the physical address and county of parent or guardian)
• Immunization/shot records
• Valid photo identification of parent or guardian

Students currently enrolled in the GISD Head Start, Pre-K or PPCD programs will not need to complete the Early Kindergarten Registration for your child. You will be completing the annual registration in July for your child to move to the PK4 or KG grade level.  If you have any questions, please call 361-645-3206.

Before you begin:

Yes, I am the Parent or Legal Guardian enrollilng the student.   If you are not the Parent or Legal Guardian contact the Elementary School campus registrar.

Yes, I reside in Goliad County / Goliad ISD school zone. If you do not live in Goliad County, you need to complete a Transfer Request for approval before enrollment.

Yes, my child will be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2024.  If your child is not 5 years old, contact the campus registrar.

You will need an active email address and phone number.

• If you do not have a current Parent Portal account, you must create one.  Ascender Parent Portal

1. From the Login Page, click the tab = Create Account
2. Complete the User Information:
   1. User Name
   2. Password / Password Verification
   3. Email Address
   4. Mobile Number
3. Click Next
4. Set up your security question.
5. Click Finish / verify your email address and log back in to proceed. 

• If you have a current Parent Portal account, Log in and click on “My Account” and then choose Enroll New Student. 

Once you have completed the online enrollment, contact the Goliad Elementary at 361-645-3206 to set up a time to bring your child’s certified copy of birth certificate to the office.    Enrollment is not complete until all documents have been received by the Elementary Registrar.
