Engineering students combine function, design in bridge design

The engineering students of Coach Lee Price are building bridges with nothing more than popsicle sticks, balsa wood and hot glue.

“The students first had to come up with a design and sketch that out,” Price said. “The students had a week to design and put their sketches into a real model.”

These Goliad High School students knew they had to balance functionality with design.

“The engineering skills they learned were loads and load paths along with design,” Price said. “The students all did a good job with bracing their bridges to be able to hold the weight. Each student's bridge held over 10 pounds.

“That was all the weights we had and they all held up.”
